August 12th, 2012...House Is Done!!
We have our final inspection with the city tomorrow to get our Certificate of Occupancy. Once we get that, we are pretty much given the go-ahead to move in! We just need to make sure we have our home insurance ready. We started this build on March 2nd. Tomorrow will be 163 days from start to finish, about 5 months and 2 weeks! I know that's just a blink in the grand scheme of things, but, to see the whole process through from start to finish is quite an experience. We thought this day would never get here. It has all been worth it, though. We will begin moving in slowly this week as the kids & I are all back in school (starting week 4 tomorrow). A big thanks to Christina's Mom & Dad who put up with us the last almost 2 months. We appreciate everything they've done for us and will continue to do. We couldn't have done it without their help.
Well, enough with long-winded story...here are some pictures of the finished product!
Our pride & joy...the Kitchen. Lots of granite, travertine back splash with a silver accent tile in it.
Drop down pendant "candle" lighting with the matching island pot hanger. Recessed can lights to light up all the hand made custom cabinets. It took the cabinet guy almost a month to get all the woodwork done in this house. He's done lots of houses all throughout the city and even he impressed himself when he was done. This guy really is a craftsman/artist.
All of this woodwork must be seen in person to be appreciated. I showed him a picture and sketched out what I was looking for & he just took over. The tile guy did a great job with the back splash. Neither one detracts from the other while both complementing our nice big stove. This was the only stove we came across that had all we wanted while not costing as much as all the other appliances combined. The stainless steel pot filler tops it all off (closer picture below).
A view from a higher angle.
Our entry foyer. Our builder suggested a barrel ceiling in the foyer to go along with all the arches. You can't see it from this angle, again you have to see this in person. Pictures don't do it justice.
More built-in woodwork surrounding our tiled fireplace. Our flat screen will go in the arched area above the mantle.
Ace's room got built in's in the closet and a few shelves. The door on the left goes out into their small foyer area and further left is a pocket door to his & Christian's bathroom.
Christian's room. On the right is his closet, middle door goes to the bathroom and left door goes into their foyer area. You can see Ace's room door open at the extreme left.
The boys got double vanity, granite counter, built in cabinets, large shower to the right (you can see the pocket door in the mirror), Christian is standing in his room.
You've probably seen the Master Bedroom already but here it is finished. Area on the far left will be either a sitting area or exercise area for us. You can see into our bathroom through the open doors...
Christina's Spa! Long granite counter top, double vanities.
Fully tiled shower with river rock base and accent trim. Eddie's office on the left...
Laundry Room. These just got delivered Saturday. Even I can't wait to do laundry in here!
10825 Julianna
The sod just got laid down on Friday (8/10/12) so, we've been watering all weekend.
Christina's design turned out great. The stagecoach lights on either side of the garage throws a "flame-like" light at night...very cool!
Southwest side of the house...
A view of the rear...sorry, not that rear!
Another pride and joy, The Study!
Again, our cabinet guy, Gabino, working off of a picture & a sketch. There's a matching computer corner on the right side (you can't quite see). In the middle, we have a queen size Murphy Bed ready for guests.
Our entry foyer chandelier. Here is the Barrel Ceiling I told you about. You kind of get a feel for it here, but, like I said, you have to see it.
Front door with sidelights.
Hopefully we will be closing on the house very soon. We met with the appraiser on Saturday and she really liked the house. I think her husband wanted to move-in right then & there.
We'll keep everyone posted on the move-in.

July 7th, 2012: Painting done, Tile going in...
Tan-Brown granite in laundry room
We went with a brick lay configuration on the tile. This is the entry/foyer looking towards the living area.
In the living area looking towards the kitchen bar and dining area to the left of the bar.
Tan-brown granite has a blue plastic tape for protection.
Does Cambria have a future as a doorstop?
Master bath double vanity & sinks. I forgot the name of this granite. That's the back splash trim you see.
Laundry room tile is in. Oops, forgot my Coke can on the counter.
Tile in the living area. Fireplace on the left. We're putting glass tile around the fireplace.
So, that's the latest pictures. Things are coming together really nice. Paint colors of the walls have coordinated really well with the rest of the staining & tile work. Christina did a great job with the color selections (not my forte). We're in the final stages of the build and hope to be in our new house by the end of July. Too bad we start school in a little over 2 weeks (July 23rd). Stay tuned for more...

May 27th, 2012...details take time!
pa·tience
[pey-shuhns]
noun
1.
the quality of being patient, as the bearing of provocation, annoyance, misfortune, or pain, without complaint, loss of temper, irritation, or the like.
2.
an ability or willingness to suppress restlessness orannoyance when confronted with delay: to have patiencewith a slow learner.
3.
quiet, steady perseverance; even-tempered care; diligence:
Patience is the name of the game right now. After seeing the quick progress of our house going up, it has slowed down considerably when we got to the interior, but, details do take time. The time is paying off though as our cabinet guru, Gabino, is doing a fabulous job of all of the cabinetry & molding. There is a lot of wood going in this house!

Detail crown molding around in entry/foyer.
Molding in entry/foyer.
Custom built-in cabinetry in living area around fireplace.
Master bedroom...small exercise area on the left and doors leading to master bath.
Master bath...we'll have a double sink vanity with granite counter. Door leads into master closet on the right.
Barrel ceiling in the front foyer with decorative molding.
Front foyer and front door (open on the right). French doors lead to a study.
One of the boys' rooms...built-in shelving and cabinets in closet.
We had a couple of niches built in. This one is in our bedroom hallway. The other is in the boys' hallway.
Head on shot of our living area with built-in cabinetry and mantle.
This we're especially liking the way it's looking. This is where our stove/cook-top will sit.
Stitched a few pictures together so you can get the feel of our kitchen...
...and the living area.
I'll post again when there's more stuff to show. We can't wait for painting to begin, hopefully sometime by the end of this coming week!

May 1st, 2012: What a difference a month makes!
It's been about 1 month since I last updated (sorry...school & track has taken priority). A lot has been going on on the house build. All the electrical work is done, the plumbing is finished, and all the drywall is hung & is now getting a few layers of plaster/mud.

I'll try not to let too much time go by without updating. From here we now start making some big decisions on the interior...my head is spinning just thinking about everything we have to pick out. Wish us luck!
